Myanmar / Burma leads Asia in forest management and conservation with most of her original forest still in tact. Nearly all of the her timbers are taken from large managed plantation areas still employing very traditional extraction methods such as elephant logging, ensuring the least disturbance to the surrounding flora and fauna.

Myanmar is famous for it's variety of hardwoods.
These are Teak, Pyinkado and Padauk just to name a few...

It would be impossible to show all the timber varieties available in Myanmar / Burma - the following 12 timbers are the most commonly sought after :

Kanyin is good scantling or builders wood, and has the similar qualities as Ingyin - just a bit darker in tone, very weatherproof, robust and very heavy.

Ingyin is a hardwood with a rather bright beige color. It is very weather resistant and used for all sorts of outdoor applications like garden fences, garden doors or general outdoor construction.

Pyinkado is commonly referred to as Burmese ironwood. It is too hard and resistant to termites and borer. The color is reddish-brown, its a long lasting durable hardwood similar to oak. Applications can be furniture, floor tiles, parquet and all outdoor wood products like decking and railings.

Padauk is called Burmese rosewood, and known for its wonderful grain pattern and full reddish brown coloring. Similar to sandalwood it has an intense scent and therefore is used for sculptures, and as decorative feature in furniture wall panelling, doors, ceiling tiles and floors.

Teak one of the best known timbers in the world and is considered to be indigenous to South East Asia. This species is naturally distributed over a relatively small portion of Asia and it is at its best in the forest of Myanmar. (Kermode, 1964) Teak is a truly wonderful timber for flooring, marine decking, and furniture for the most discerning of tastes.
